Vienna in a bite-sized pocket format: The Karlskirche is printed on fondant on this small Lebkuchen ducat – a charming souvenir for visitors to Vienna, a nice treat for guests or a sweet place card at celebrations. Beneath it lies a round slice (7 cm) of original Metzger honey Lebkuchen, baked according to the traditional Metzger recipe – Lebkuchen tradition since 1685.
The original Metzger honey dough is “cooked” exclusively with honey from Austria and stored in its raw state for over half a year. This allows the dough to mature naturally before it is processed into Lebkuchen with only spices, without the addition of eggs, fat, preservatives or flavorings.
Thanks to the honey in the dough, the Lebkuchen has a particularly long shelf life. If the Lebkuchen becomes dry, Oma Metzger recommends: place it in a container overnight with a sliced apple.
