A little fright to sink your teeth into: Our “Boo” Lebkuchen slice features a design printed on fondant and is a playful Halloween greeting—as a treat to bring to a party, a surprise in a lunchbox, or simply for snacking. Beneath the fondant is a round slice (11 cm) of moist, original Metzger honey Lebkuchen, baked according to a traditional Metzger recipe—a Lebkuchen tradition dating back to 1685.
Original Metzger honey dough is made exclusively with honey from Austria and stored uncooked for over six months. This allows the dough to mature naturally before it is baked into Lebkuchen with spices and without the addition of eggs, fat, preservatives, or flavorings.
The honey in the dough makes the Lebkuchen particularly long-lasting. If the Lebkuchen becomes dry, Oma Metzger recommends placing it in a container overnight with a sliced apple.
