Vienna Lebkuchen KRONE AT 2019

The pre-Christmas period is the most wonderful time. In Vienna, too, there are numerous offers that evoke the contemplative mood. Delicacies such as biscuits and Lebkuchen are not to be missed. That's why a very special pop-up store is now attracting the Viennese to Mariahilfer Straße.

The Viennese Lebkuchen may be less well-known than its Nuremberg counterpart, but it has a very eventful history. Founded as a candle and gingerbread manufacturer, the company now known as "Metzger & Söhne" shaped the emergence of the Viennese Lebkuchen for centuries. The former Imperial and Royal Court supplier, which disappeared from Stephansplatz in 2013 after 250 years, is now operating a pop-up store on Mariahilfer Strasse. A flagship store in the 1st district is being planned to bring the cherished tradition and finest Viennese Lebkuchen back to the city permanently. The handmade Viennese creations delight in lovingly designed gift packaging and sweeten the pre-Christmas season.

This Lebkuchen tradition is returning to the heart of the city. A veritable "winter garden" for gourmets big and small shines on Mariahilferstraße. Creations made from Lebkuchen and the finest ingredients are classically and lovingly packaged and invite you to discover and taste them. "We offer our customers traditional Lebkuchen with organic honey from Austria in an extravagant guise. We take a lot of time for the traditional craftsmanship and process the best ingredients just like 330 years ago. It simply tastes best this way, everyone should treat themselves or their loved ones to something special every now and then," says managing director Lukas Linsbichler.
